Oh wow-I guess it’s a common problem then-I’m just about pulling my hair out lol
Thanks for the tip -proudpreemieparents-the problem is that I live in a high floor of a condominium (apartment style) building and have no window in the bathrooms and I can only open my other windows about three inches. Both Bathrooms have a closet or corridor and kitchen etc before getting to the next area with a window. (Kitchen doesn’t have a window either) This lack of windows is for safety of the kids and to conserve energy (heat and air conditioning) but this means I cannot use bleach or anything with strong or toxic fumes.

well there are many things, and you may have to try more than one to get the best results, some things to try are: peroxide
mix borax and water spray on and wipe off (use a more diluted solution on a regular basis to prevent)
Rubbing alcohol, water, and laundry soap (link 1)
Vinegar and salt (link 2)
I have also used lemon juice and salt, or a lemon cut in half and dipped in salt, not only does it clean but leaves a nice smell.
note: borax can be a iterative but most people don’t have a problem with it, just be sure to rinse all surfaces well and if you are really sensitive to substances you may want to wear gloves, I have used it though and never had a problem and don’t remember it having a smell. Also if you are worried about fumes from cleaning how about cleaning just before leaving the house? just a thought. Hope this helps.
I’m currently asking the same question as I can’t get my dang tiles clean either. I tried some of that new Comet spray gel. It’s nasty (leave your window WIDE OPEN and get the heck outta there after you spray) and it only faded the grout…it didn’t totally clean it. Maybe you’ll have better luck. The bottle doesn’t say how long to leave it on. I did it for six min. as that’s all I could stand of the smell as my bathroom has no window and I live in an apartment.
Try hydrogen peroxide. It`s cheap and sooo much safer than bleach and all those commercial chemical cleaners. You can find it in any drugstore.
What I did was go to Home Depot. They have industrial strength tile and Grout cleaner, which works really well and is lemon scented. I use it in conjunction with an old toothbrush to really get those grout stains out. It works like a charm and smells great!
Best of luck!

It looks like you already got some good answers and probably wouldn’t anyway, but don’t resort to bleach… it can eat the grout sealer.
